1. Where does my user mail go?

In EzMTS.INI there is a key for your base mail path "MailPath". For every user listed in your user file (EzMTS.User for default setup) you must have a directory off of your MailPath. If you have a user named "joe" you will need to create a directory named "joe" off the MailPath. If your MailPath is:

c:\EzMTS

Then joe's directory would be:

c:\EzMTS\joe

2. Who is the postmaster?

A. You are! You must either define a user in your user file, or define an alias that points to a real user (in your user file). Aliases are defined in your alias file (EzMTS.Alias for a default setup).
IMPORTANT: make sure you edit the password in EzMTS.Pass for the postmaster user! If you don't anyone who knows about EzMTS will be able to read the mail for that user.

3. How do I setup EzMTS?

Edit EzMTS.INI and follow the comments. Please take the time to look at each of the files referenced in EzMTS.INI, each of them are commented to give you some direction for configuring EzMTS. [18 Jul 2000] You may now run INSTALL from the directory you installed EzMTS in.

4. EzMTS does this, but server XXxxX doesn't, how come?

The EzMTS components are in strict compliance with the RFCs that govern mail transport. This means that they operate EXACTLY as speficied in RFC 821 and RFC1939. There are a number of commercial/shareware servers that do NOT fully comply with the above RFCs. Please don't complain to me, complain to the authors of those servers. EzMTS is a fully compliant mail transport system.

5. Is there an easy way to add users?

Yes, from the directory you installed EzMTS into, run the ADDUSERS command.

6. Is there a mailing list for EzMTS?

Yes, send an email to:

listserv@2cah.com

with the command:

SUBSCRIBE mts

in the body of the email. I will respond to your questions.

7. Can I contact you directly?

Yes, my email address is: craig@2cah.com.

8. Does EzMTS require registration?

No it does not. However, I would appreciate a short comment via email if you use EzMTS on your system (source or binary).

9. Do I have to have an MX record in my DNS?

Not necessarily, as most SMTP senders will fall back to the root domain if they can not retrieve an MX record for a mail receiver.

10. Are user names case-sensitive?

As of MTSSmtp 1.15a they are not. Having EzMTS provide for case-sensitive user names ended up being more trouble than it was worth. I may provide a configuration option in the future if demand warrants it.

11. MTSAgent won't deliver mail, why?

In most cases this is because you have set the [Agent]PrimaryDNS key in EzMTS.INI to a valid IP address but there is not a working DNS server present at that IP address.

12. I've edited EzMTS.INI, but I can't get my mail with POP3! What's wrong?

Many problems can be solved by making sure that you use the FULL PATH and filename of your EzMTS.INI file when starting the server components.
